There are a number of ways of recording your dreams. The most common are to use a voice recorder and to write them in a notebook. Both have their problems.

Using a recorder makes it difficult to edit the dream details as you go. Sometimes you remember fragments of dream and then as you replay it in your mind other parts that you forgot come back. It is good to put these down in order. Also, the recording can be difficult to understand. It is surprising how our voice sounds when recorded in the middle of the night!

Writing a dream down is probably more common but the problem here is that in order to see what we have are writing we ned to put a light on and this snaps us out of the dream state (what scientists call the 'Alpha state') into waking up (what is called the 'Beta state'). This means that we forget the very dreams we a trying to record. Without enough light they are often illegible!

People with a laptop computer have the solution at their fingertips. Recording a dream on a laptop allows you to have enough light to see what you are doing without waking you up; it allows you edit the dream as you go and ensures that the dream details are legible.
